On Monday, facebook-owned instant messaging service WhatsApp said that it had informed the Indian government that consumer privacy was its top priority, following concerns posed by the country’s technology ministry about the messaging app’s new privacy policy.
In a letter dated May 18, the IT Ministry asked WhatsApp to revoke its revised privacy policy, which went into effect on May 15, and threatened legal action against the company.
“We replied to the Government of India’s letter and assured them that user privacy remains our top priority,” the company said in a statement obtained by Press release on Monday. WhatsApp also stated that the update had no impact on the privacy of people’s messages.
